Silent Engine

Silent Engine

by Julian Garner
The skeleton of a wrecked house. A hundred years ago the village fell into the sea. On a rocky ledge above the beach Bill and Anna recriminate, negociate and strike bargains with God. Looming over them: the shadows of the village's lost fishermen - and of their own dead daughter. And below, the waves waiting to claim them. When the sand's always shifting beneath your feet, where do you stand? How can you be a good mother, father, lover, human being when the Joker's playing God?
